Mentored Hunting License: How Does it Work?

A mentored hunting licence is a permit that allows someone to hunt legally for a fee, under the guidance of a more knowledgeable hunting companion. Mentored hunters must have a Wisconsin hunting permit and a Wisconsin handgun license. They must not be more than an arm's reach of their protégé. A mentored hunter must also follow all Wisconsin hunting laws. A youth younger than 18 cannot own a gun for hunting.

Mentor hunters must accompany their protégés on hunting trips. In addition to being an excellent role model, the mentor must also know the laws governing hunting. They must possess a mentored hunting licence and complete the hunter education course. You must be at minimum 16 years old, or they will not have permission from their parents. Mentors must have a license for biggame hunting to hunt alongside their protégé youth. To hunt with a mentor, the mentee must have 18 years.

The commission has a mentoring program for hunters that aims at attracting new hunters. A mentor program allows an experienced hunter and mentee to go along with a novice hunter. HuntSAFE certification is not required for young hunters if a mentoring program has been established.

An adult who has a valid Idaho hunting permit must hold a mentored hunter's license. Mentored hunters must be at minimum 16 years of age. Hunting permits in Idaho are required for hunters to be accompanied during the spring turkey firearms season. Important note: A mentored hunter's license does not grant the hunter any special rights. However, the license does provide the opportunity for the hunter and the opportunity to be actively involved in the process.
